Temple of light in the darkness
This picture was taken from an unlit bridge over the M61 motorway, Lancashire. The road was extremely dark and just as cold.
The oldest surviving branch of the Mormons is said to have originated in Preston, England just over 10 miles away and not in the USA as you might expect.
This particular Mormon temple was opened in 1998 and was the second to be built in the UK. The first was built in Surrey 40 years previously.
Made of white granite from Sardinia, it has a single spire upon which stands the angel Moroni. He faces East and can be seen from some distance away, particularly when travelling on the M61.
Whether you think this building fits in with the landscape or not, it will be here for a very long time to come.
