Today, for the first time in ages, I made bread. Well, I suppose the machine did all the hard work making the dough, but I did shape the rolls and lay them aside to prove for the second time.

Anyway, the point of telling you all this superfluous nonsense was that, once I had reused the camera from the bag of flour that the cat spilled over the work surface (JOKE but memo to self not to leave it there again), I had a bit of time to play while the bread was rising.

So, after yesterdays relatively low brow toy (@Rainie - it's a kind of spring) I decided to go for broke and I had a play with a rather large telescope!

At least that's what I thought the image looked like. It is in fact, another relatively inexpensive way of amusing myself. All you need is a large chunk of ice (mine came off the roof) preferably with a lot of bubbles. Then you stick it on top of a black WATERPROOF background under some bright lights. Next, focus in close on the reflected light using a wide aperture and then pull out a little bit (You'll need to be on manual focus to do this). The lights all come into sharp relief and the background mists over. Best bit is, the patterns change as you move around the ice and as the whole thing begins to melt.

I think I did most of the shots at about 2 stops under and post camera I played around a little bit to heighten contrast, but otherwise it's as it was shot. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but think I'll try it again tomorrow. Probably be best to do it when I don't have bread to burn though!
