The Devil's Mincemeat

Mince pies date from the time of the Crusades, and were banned by the Puritans during the English Civil War as a sign of Catholic idolatry. Thankfully the tradition continued post-Reformation. Even more thankfully, we no longer put real meat in the mincemeat.

(Thanks to Daydreaming for the inspiration)
