Fancy a gluwein anyone?
Had a quick visit to the German Christmas market in Birmingham last night. We had our team Christmas do - the plan was to all meet at a pub for a couple of drinks, then go the German market for gluhwein, followed by a meal at a Greek restaurant.
It was quite cold though and then there was a flurry of snow late afternoon so I feared that we'd end up staying in the pub but luckily I managed to persuade the chief 'I want to stay in the warm' person to change her mind.
We walked down from Broad Street and this photo is the view of the start of the market. I know it was cold but I was surprised how empty it was. When we've been before, it's been so packed you could hardly move, but not last night. It was still a good atmosphere though and the gluwein warmed us all up.
We didn't stay that long before we went for our meal - I'd been to the Greek restaurant before years ago & in fact I'd voted for one of the other options we'd given ourselves but got outvoted. It's not great food, and doesn't seem to have been decorated or spruced up for years. They get people up to dance on the tiny little stage & I hate things like that - managed to avoid being dragged up though three of my colleagues weren't quite so lucky. Then it's all out onto the street for a Greek conga & some plate smashing before we managed to get back in the warm for another drink or two.
That was supposed to be it, but somehow (I have no idea how!) we managed to find ourselves in Reflex on Broad Street where there was more beer, some Tequila, lots and lots of dancing complete with singing along and quite a bit of people watching to do.
I was very glad I'd decided to stay in a hotel for the night, got back to the room at about 2 am - I thought we'd be all done by about 10.30 pm!
We had a great time - can't see us going back to the Greek place next year but maybe we'll have a team clubbing night again ;oD
