Sitting on the dock of the quay...
...and wishing it were warmer. These are Brown pelicans, the only non white pelican in the world. At one point, pesticides accumulating in their bodies caused their egg shells to become very thin and they failed to breed in many of their habitual haunts. Now that many pesticides have been banned, they are regaining much of the territories they lost, and are a familiar sight from North Carolina south as far as Venezuela.
