Tay Ghillie

it's a hard life

A bitterly cold night with temperatures down to minus eight degrees was always going to lead to lovely blue skies in the morning and this indeed is how the day has turned out. A bit earlier though when this photograph was taken, the sun was struggling to fight through the low clouds to the east.

The photograph shows the ruined Kirkton Cottage and Glencorse Reservoir in the Pentland Hills. In the 1930's the cottage was occupied by a family who used to sell teas and cakes to passing hillwalkers, but now it's only sheep who use it's crumbling walls for shelter from the cold wind.

The image is taken from three photographs exposed at -2, 0, +2 and then blended together.

Best viewed large in my humble opinion and that way you might be able to see the poor sheep.
