Winter Solstice

While the lunar eclipse made the headlines, it was also the darkest day of Winter. Sunrise here was 08:38 and sunset was 16:08.

I left work early as the snow was falling heavily in Dublin, nightmare traffic and plenty of chaos. En route to Leitrim I stopped off at Lough Owel, near Mullingar and photographed this piece of art while the sun shone briefly. My way of welcoming Winter.

Note: The Winter Solstice is an internationally celebrated event at Newgrange. A lucky few (by lottery)get to watch the sunrise in the ancient chamber. At 5,000 years old this structure precedes the pyramids. Put this on your "to do" list.
