So, I made a rookie mistake this week in my lesson planning and curriculum pacing. I ended our previous unit last week, and started a new unit this week. The problem with this is that this is our last week before the holiday break. This doesn't really make any academic sense because they won't be tested over whatever it is that I teach them for another solid month.

So, after monday, I threw out my lesson plans for the week and decided to show a movie. And to my dismay, I could not find a movie that deals with the Renaissance, or at least the early Italian Renaissance. So finally I decided on the Da Vinci Code. Which is a mixed bag, it's way interesting and they talk about Da Vinci, the Crusades, Constantine, the Roman Empire, and of course, Jesus and Christianity. All of which we've covered this semester, so it's been very interesting to see their reactions to it.

But at the same time, there are a few students that are aware of the film (and book's) notoriety and asked to leave the classroom instead of view the film. Of course I have no problem with this, but still it kind of makes me feel weird and uncomfortable to be responsible for making my students feel weird and uncomfortable. Especially with a movie like this, which I am not really prepared to defend the academic merits of.

Ah well, just two more days.
