For people to care.

What does it take to get people upset anymore? How screwed up does this world have to be before people stand up, walk out in the streets and start marching on the seats of power demanding change?

What would it take?

Several days ago, Escaping Erebus posted a lovely blip musing on hope, and futility, and whether it's even possible to make a difference, and whether it's worthwhile to even try.

Pessimist that I am, I'm not sure.

The best most people in this country can muster nowadays as far as righteous indignation goes - even in the face of numerous outrages and abuses and outright obvious lies - is to maybe change the channel to another talking head.

We're a country of somnambulous lemmings - sedated to the point of permanent stupor by our 300 channels of self-medication. We probably deserve whatever puppet government our electronic "voting" machines provide.

The thing that pisses me off is that the few people who do care get taken down the drain along with everyone else.
