Christmas Traditions

A little before Christmas,
Is when ideas begin to light.
The spirit comes a-stealing,
That fills us with delight.

Our treasured ways and customs,
Raise up to fill our thoughts.
As we recall through out the years,
Of certain ways...we sought.

Of making fruit-cake by the pound,
And storing it away.
So it would be all mellowed up,
When soon would come the day.

And how Grandpa came to visit,
And planned upon the morn.
To tell that wondrous story,
When the blessed Christ was born.

When Peter cut the perfect tree,
And stood it by the hearth.
And how he laid the tinsel on,
Through childish pranks...of mirth.

And mama...with her gold-rimmed set,
Got out her cut-work cloth.
And fixed a place for the fancy-cups,
To hold Aunt Cindy's froth...

O Yes...it's such a glorious time,
When Christmas comes our way.
And family traditions all pop-out,
Like they are here to stay.
