Ventilation

This is one of the ventilation shafts for the Kingsway Tunnel - the newer of the Mersey Tunnels. Unlike its art deco counterpart for the older tunnel (which has centre stage on the Strand in the middle of town) this black sheep is tucked away out of sight of most visitors to the city on the old dock road.

But I rather like its brutal lines and uncompromising style. I'll bet when it was built in the '60s it was the height of fashion.

Despite the fact that there is some colour to be had in a shot like this (the lights around the base are green), I thought the B&W suited better.
