Old Street Market

Thong Nambonbi (Hump Bridge)

This old stone bridge was built during the 19th century over the Nambul River running through the heart of Imphal city. Now preserved as a historical monument, it served only as a foot-walk. Over the time, gradually it became a haven for street vendors selling all kinds of electrical and electronic items including radios, tape recorders, torchlamps, mosquito/fly extinguishers, FM radios, lighters, toys etc. Almost all of these items are duplicate ones selling at well below one third of the original prices. There are also vendors selling spectacles, hosiery, vegetables and grubs.
