Birthday
After an indefinate dalay in Faro,we finally made it back to a snowy UK. I really didn't think we were going to be able to fly. From everything the pilot said from the engine not working to the conditions back home I actually feared for our safety. But I think easy jet felt it was better we be stranded in gatwick than Portugal! So we arrived home in the early hours, flying over a dark uk bathed in white. It was quite a sight from the aircraft. Upon landing the pilot told us that more heavy snow had been forecast and we should make our way home as quickly as possible. Easier said than done when nothings running!
After being told that all the hotels in the area were full(and feeling a little like Mary and Joseph) we eventually found a train that headed close to our area, and after a very cold wait at the station we boarded our train with relief. Any step closer to home was great. At the next station we again had a long wait in a cold outdoor waiting area. We huddled together for warmth,me,P and bump. It was so disappointing when our wait was coming to an end and then the train was cancelled. My heart sank. The gods must have been looking down on us though because the train station very kindly laid on a taxi for the 8 of us stranded. And there came the highlight of my birthday. The sun rising and us driven home with the taxi sat nav taking us on a very strange but beautiful countryside route home. It was just so pretty to see the landscape bathed in white. Thrilling but I was far too tired to take pictures. The highlight of my birthday and we had made it home in one piece. It felt very very good.
