The Nut Game

It used to be well known that the English love parlour games. This one is a classic, played every year at Christmas by my extended family.

A row of nuts is spread down the middle of the table and everyone is dealt three cards.

Players frantically pass cards to and fro according to the instructions of the hysterically yelling dealer. The first person to get three of a kind grabs a nut. This is the signal for everyone else to grab a nut.

Not enough nuts!...doh. Three lives and your out.

Generally there are only minor wounds, numerous broken fingernails, and gashes caused by fingernails. One broken chair this year. Generally not too bad.

I have never won. My wife has won every year for the past fourty years. She lost this year to her younger sister. This is going down in the family memory as an event of apocalyptic proportions. We are going to have to practise ready for next year.
