Connection between Mistletoe and Christmas

Following a bit of internet based research:

Mistletoe's connection with Christmas originates in a pagan tradition where a sprig of mistletoe was used to protect the house from goblins and sorcery which were most threatening at the time of the winter solstice but it was always considered unlucky to decorate the house with mistletoe before Christmas Eve. Kissing beneath it is a remnant of fertility rites, it was babies that were intended rather than permission to grab a smooch, something to think about next time you go to kiss someone under the mistletoe.
