Bulbuous Bow Part II & Twistlocks

More than two years ago, I showed a picture of a vessel with a bulbuous bow.
That ship was in port however and the effect of this bow could not be seen of course.
This time we have one in action. The idea behind this design is te reduce the waterplane area of the vessel and by doing this also reduce the resistance through the water. Which will save you fuel and time in the long run.

There is something else interesting on this picture.
It can be seen on the right of this picure and causes a lot of problems and damage.
It is the problem of how secure containers stacked five high (about 15 meters high) properly. Now they are only secured by twistlocks in between them.
No wonder hundreds of containers are lost overboard every year, posing quite a danger to other shipping.
And the customers and insurance companies of course.
