My Father's Birthday.
28th December was the day of my Father's birth. I always used to feel he must have missed out at Christmas. Being a selfish Aries, i thought it was a bad 'deal'.
I was told that my grand mother christened him herself very soon after his birth as they thought he would not survive.
But he flourished, and was a popular and good looking man, with a great sense of humour and an astute grasp of nature, and ideas which are commonplace now, but rather 'different in those days.
We sadly lost him when he was 59. I was lucky to be the only child of such an interesting parent. We gardened together for hours, and walked and talked. He was a gentle father, with no hard rules except for not allowing a television into the house. He dies when I was 14, so I had a TV free home. Looking back it was a good thing. I managed to catch up on other people's TVs so was not totally in the dark.
Our family are very small now. I am the matriarch of the grand total of four, my 'children' and myself.
I had an email this morning with the shocking news that the oldest (only in early 70's) male of the family, (in Australia) had suddenly died. My son at 21 is now in this position.
We were once a very large family, but out of 4 siblings only one had children, and of their 3 children, only one had one, me.
I am glad to say I have had three wonderful children, and they look set to make up for two lost generations.
I posted this photo in memory of my father, and my recently lost cousin David.
