Christmas present

Last night two friends came around and brought me this beautiful Christmas present which they had made for me. The board is made out of huon pine - from a wonderful tree that is native to Tasmania. The tree is very slow growing and consequently protected so the only wood that can be used for timber is either recycled or found. The wood never rots in water so can be found in streams or lakes or on the forest floor. Some trees grow for 3000 years making it Australia's oldest living organism and one of the oldest on earth. Who knows how old the timber used in this bread board is. a truly sacred object!
