Sebay
Today, after the Christmas celebrations, we are getting back to normal and into our old routines! Himself is back to his postie duties, a-sorting and a-delivering-oh, and I've been doing washing and tidying, with a bit of dusting thrown in for good measure!
Ollie and I set off for a road walk as the fields are so muddy after the dramatic thaw that we had the night before last. I thought it would keep his legs and belly fur a bit cleaner if we stuck to the tarmac road, but needless to say the lure of the very deep water in the roadside ditches was too much for him! Just before the last lot of snow the council and local farmers were digging out all the ditches round about with tractors and JCBs so now these ditches are working very efficiently, the melting snow and rain is running off the fields and roads and the ditches are running like torrents. As Ollie was now filthy and soaked and looking like something that lived in a ditch, I decided he couldn't get much muckier so we headed up to explore this old ruin. I'm pretty sure it's called Sebay and according to the book that would mean it was built in 1821. Usually this field has cattle or sheep in it so it is not an easy place to get close to. As you can see the animals and the weather are gradually demolishing it, so I shall go back up there and have another look when the ground is a little less boggy!
Back home Ollie had a dip in the sea to clean off the worst of the detritus and then had a good rub down with his towel followed by a bit of a going over with the hair dryer! Now he lies in front of the fire, with his chew, gently steaming and giving off an interesting fragrance! Luckily the Christmas scented candles are helping disguise the Eau de Chien!
