Out of the mist

I was crossing London Road at the top of the Walk when I chanced to glance up towards Calton Hill. The old observatory dome is visible through the mist...but what on earth is that thing on the left?

Oh, of course, silly me, it's a "Viking" galley. On a hill a couple of miles from the sea. Presumably due to get set alight on Hogmanay, in an old Scottish/Pictish/Viking tradition that must go back at least, ooh, five years when some marketing person dreamed it up.

You can just about make out Nelson's monument, to the left of the dome.
