My Da gave me this for christmas (he's in it). Where to begin about Connolly. Born in Edinburgh in 1868 to Irish immigrant parents. Growing up in shanty town Edinburgh and leaving school for work at aged 11 formed the man he was to become, marxist, socialist, international nationalist. He is widely assocciated with his leading role in the irish 1916 easter rising against British oppression (he was to executed by the british for this, along with his six coconspirators)This should not detract from his other work both in the UK (forming trade unions for workers right inboth Liverpool and Edinburgh) and America. It is worth remembering for those who admire the legacies of other more fashionable lefties it is often the works and teachings of Connolly to which they first found their desire to stand up for the wee man. Connolly was recently voted the greatest ever @Irishman@ in a poll, in the BBC version he came 62nd.
