Chinese auction

This photo surely deserves a caption....

You see this is no ordinary Christmas day opening of presents and that is no ordinary lamp. This is a family tradition, our yearly Chinese auction where we draw straws to give, recieve, and trade a hodgepodge of funky funny gifts. This year Danny, my uncle here in the picture got a new lamp...a barelegged lamp actually, like the one from that classic film, A Christmas Story.

Since you can exchange your gift for any other person's gift who drew before you, the later drawing numbers are most coveted. This Christmas I got the very last number and had my pick of the whole lot! It was a tough choice between the barelegged lamp, the Chia-Obama, and the giant meditating frog. In the end though I really like frogs, especially zen-meditating frogs in the lotus position holding two serendipitous movie tickets!
