The Lizard Meanders

What Goes Around

The snow had us homebound for at least a good two days-- we got a total snowfall of somewhere between 14 and 18 inches (the most in 21 years, we are told by long-time residents).

What to do then, but make pots and pots of coffee, or drink cups and cups of hot cocoa lashed with mini marshmallows; cook endless small and big meals while planning more of the same; play games of Mancala with youngest daughter (she got a set for Christmas); make silly little snow people with leaves for eyes and berries for noses and buttons; go out and take pictures of snow heaped on garden furniture. Oh and shovel the walk, the steps, and the driveway.

Despite this interesting state of affairs outside, hubby got called in to the uni at the ungodly hour of 5 yesterday morning, for computer maintenance things owing to some power outages (he is a systems engineer for the high-performance computing groups).

The streets have been treacherous with black ice, and there aren't enough crews to cover all areas in the city. As a result, too, we were told our neighborhood's regular trash pick-up (supposed to be Tuesday) got bumped to Wednesday, which was yesterday.

Wednesday came and went, with nary a rumble of a truck on the road. Each street and mews is lined with trash bins full to gaping with holiday debris plus the usual household detritus. We've got ours outside on the curb just like everybody, but I've got two more bags (one of recyclables) tied up here in the kitchen. I just hope no creatures are out there needing to forage in this cold.
