Dun Mountain Ride
I mountain-biked the Dun Mountain track today, in Nelson. This was the oldest railway in New Zealand - completed in 1862 to service the copper mine on Dun Mountain and disestablished in 1872. The rail cars were horse-drawn. It is now a walkway and mountain bike track. One of NZ's classic rides, it goes from the Brook Valley, following the old railway, then across the open tops, then a screaming, boulder-field descent with wicked switch-backs, down the Maitai Valley. Finally, we rode back over the ridge and into the Brook, where we started. Great fun. A five hour trip. Today was a good day.
