My Birthday
My birthday came,
I did not hurry it along.
I let it take its time,
To sing its song.
Other birthdays had passed,
When I was young.
This time there was silence,
With no praise on the tongue.
One by one they had added,
And made me old.
Each one was a blessing,
So I've been told.
More knowledge they bring,
By experiences given.
And open your eyes,
To the way of heaven.
And by the number of years,
That you can hold down.
Great will be your reward,
And more jeweled your crown.
