Remains of a Salmon Weir
On the River Severn it used to be common to catch Salmon in wicker, cone shaped baskets called putchers. The baskets were held in place by oak, larch or elm poles driven in to the mud.
Apparently there used to be 11,000 on the River Severn.
The River Severn is also famous for its elvers which are endangered.
This was taken on a walk passed the old Severn Bridge and up towards Littleton upon Severn. Tempting as it was to include a blip of the bridge (still looking majestic) and an angelic photo of Son #2 the salmon net remains won the day.
The photograph is in colour, though you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
All ended with a drink in the White Hart in Littleton - a great country pub.
Have a great New Year.
