'Should auld acquaintance be forgot ...'

January the First. 12.13am.

New Day. New Month. New Year.

Amidst the cacophony of the fireworks and the melody of Auld Lang Syne (courtesy of James' mouth, fingers and cornet), a lone lantern makes its one and only journey in a vaguely South Easterly direction above the house.

The sky was full of them just after midnight (well, not literally 'full' but at least thirty strong) ... their silence a wonderful counter to the brash, noisy gaudiness of all the fireworks.
