Capodanno

New Year's Eve with friends at The Surge, my favourite bar in Rome. It calls itself an Irish bar but it's really a Roman bar. It's a stone's throw from the Colosseum and thousands upon thousands of folks were walking past on their way to the open-air concert in Piazza Venezia. The Surge was closed for a dinner with the family and friends of the owner Eddie, and I had a great time standing in the doorway with the smokers and pyromaniacs with a wine in my hand telling strangers they couldn't come in. There was plenty of food, drink, fireworks and lentils (apparently they bring good fortune in the new year).
