Winter afternoon at Greenham Common

This is one of the many ponds that are now present on the taxiway and runway of the old USAF cruise missile base at Greenham Common, Berks, UK. The site has now been reclaimed as a common and is a site of special scientific interest due to the unusual habitat. As we finished a walk around the site, the sun was beginning to fade and the sky looked dramatic reflected in the still, shallow pools. Last time I visited the base - sometime in the 1980s - I was on a CND demonstration outside the perimeter fence.
