Prize Buttons

By chance this morning I came across this old postcard with buttons sewn onto it. When I looked at it closely I found my mother had signed the card on the back with the number 116. I realised that I had never given this any thought before, just something that had been in my possession for some time along with various bits and pieces of the past.

I think this must have been her entry into a competition for sewing as many buttons as possible on a postcard. I'm guessing it would have been done during the early years of her marriage some 60 odd years ago. The buttons are obviously old and she had kept it, most likely to use the buttons later as you would in those days.

I reckon 116 buttons sewn onto postcard is a pretty good effort, perhaps she won first prize! I hope so...
