family tradition :-)

christmas day is just the three of us, no guests, no extras, no-one really wanted. get up, have a bacon sarnie and a cuppa and then get down to some serious pressie opening :-) it's all stockings and bits and bobs and books and dvds and jumpers, nothing major, but we enjoy seeing people open things we've spent time choosing - and share the moments opening gifts from others we are baffled by (it's nice not having to be nice about things you are underwhelmed with - i'd rather people bought a book token or nothing than didn't spend any thought on a gift, tbh).

lunch is soup and pate, then it's ticking off the prep that didn't get done last night and a bit of telly before dinner around 6.30pm (normal time for us, and it means the boss lady can have a nice day too). crackers, bread sauce, glass of wine - but no pud, we're all too stuffed. a chocolate or two and some more telly, then off to bed with the new terry pratchett.

tiny traditions, and not thrilling, and i imagine very dull and tedious (and light on the alcohol) for many people, but we like it. we're not religious, but neither are we into spending oodles of cash on stuff we neither want nor need. it's about spending a bit of time together, and buying a few gifts to say we appreciate each other. i don't want to think about the time when we don't get to do this, it's become precious the longer we've done it.

happy christmas.
