Resolutions
~backblip~
Happy New Year!
Clichéd shot I know, but it has to be done.
I don't normally make resolutions but this year I think I have to. In previous years I didn't think there was much point, my plan was just "go to school", "go to University" or "go to work every day and do research", but this year is different. Since I'm starting a business the success or failure of my year rests solely with me. Yes I'll need some luck along the way, and the help of those around me, friends, family, fellow small business-owners, mentors etc, but really, I need to make it work. Bit scary that.
My vague non-resolution resolution last year was to get to know my camera better, and with the help of blipfoto I've done just that. I still have a lot to learn but I feel like I've finally got to the stage where my camera has become like an extension of my arm. I can look at a scene and know pretty much instinctively what focal length, ISO, aperture or shutter speed I'll need. So non-resolution resolution fulfilled!
I haven't really thought about this year's resolutions except to tell myself I really need to make some, so excuse me if this list is a bit haphazard, I'm making it up as I go along!
Business resolutions:
1) Think like a businesswoman - join a networking group, make every effort to meet fellow business people, keep the accounts up-to-date, read those cheesy motivational books! Work like the boss could walk in at any minute :)
2) Train - attend as many training courses as financially possible, including at least one substantial wedding course and one on lighting. Attend trade fair in January and make the most of it. Never stop learning.
3) Keep iPad portfolio up to date and close at hand at all times - you never know when the next customer will walk through the door. Don't be embarrassed to show it.
4) Be proactive - in the first three months of the year organise and coordinate a wedding portfolio shoot with hairdresser, make-up artist, bridal boutique and model. Don't sit thinking about how difficult it will be, go and do it.
5) Assist - contact other wedding photographers and ask to be their bag carrier/second shooter. Watch and learn.
6) Prepare for every single photoshoot. Don't leave anything to chance for my first wedding in February! :O
Personal resolutions:
7) Blip more!
8) Shoot for pleasure
9) Make a real effort to keep in touch with old friends and colleagues.
and most importantly:
10) Have fun :)
