Where I Am From 4
Today was my first day back at work since the New Year break. First thing that I did was to hang my Countryfile calendar, which was a very thoughtful Christmas gift and which is full of wonderful images, up on my home office wall.
Nice blip, I thought. However my eye was taken by this portrait of my maternal great-grandparents which takes pride of place on my office wall. It is a large image approx 50 x 40 cms. It used to hang in my Grandmother's bedroom and when her house was being cleared I asked if I could have it. No-one could understand why I wanted it. My Father said that I should hang it over the fireplace and it would scare the children away from the fire.
It is taken from another photo which I have that shows the happy couple surrounded by their family. I am not sure when the original would have been taken perhaps around the turn of the 20th Centuary. Amazing what they could do before Photoshop!
