Candlestick
One of a pair of hand carved wooden South Asian candlesticks I placed on the mantlepiece today, now that the Christmas cards and decorations have been put away.
I took some shots of the candlesticks because I've never really given them much thought and I wanted to give them a closer look.
I'm not sure what type of wood has been used, I thought it might be sheesham or Indian Rosewood.
I am curious about the symbolism of the creatures carved into the wood; three monkeys, supporting a man supporting a stork, and finally a frog at the top. (I think)
Please feel free to enlighten me.
