Jeff Greene's Daily Photo

Timber!

We love our Lodgepole Pines here in the Pacific Northwest. Over a hundred feet tall, stately, and no leaves to rake up every fall. The birds love them too which makes for some great birdwatching and photography.

Unfortunately, the occasional windstorm will knock the weaker, aging trees over, sometimes taking out entire homes with them. It's a sad reality, but after a large branch crashed through our backyard neighbor's window, they were compelled to remove four of these beauties today.

This is Buck Swift (his real name) who makes his living every day climbing ten stories up a swaying tree and using a chainsaw to surgically remove them by methodically sawing off 2' chunks from the top down. It's cold (28 deg F today), windy, and one false move will have you walking like a pirate or singing soprano.

Not a job for the weak of heart...
