Fire pit
We generally take our Christmas decs down soon after New Year and so today we also removed all the greening, the holly and laurel we had brought in on Christmas Eve, together with the tree. These would be burnt in an annual, much-loved ritual.
Last year we made the mistake of doing all the prep in the dark, so this year during the afternoon we set up the firepit at the top of our terraced Pennine garden, dragged up some logs we'd been saving and sorted out a safe place for firelighters and matches. Then, in the early evening, mulled wine in a flask, and wearing many layers of clothes we settled ourselves down for an hour of convivial fire feeding. (We have to wait for a still night as we have no wish to smoke out our neighbours!)
I took lots of pics of the fire, but like this one particularly as I've also, inadvertently, capured the street light at the end of our block.
