Reflections of a family
Slow photo day today. Been chained to my macs working hard. I've sat looking out as the day has gone from grey to blue sky. My chance to go shoot some pictures in day light had passed. I wanted to use my camera at least once today. So picked it up, looked out of the window and aimed at anything I could see out the back. Someone in the flat over the gardens was in their kitchen I think. I could see here walk from kitchen to living room. it was reminiscent of the amazing Hitchcock film 'Rear Window'. A bit voyeuristic maybe so I decided to back away from the window, take off the 90mm and switch for some 50mm f/1.4 action instead. I'm in complete darkness apart from my 3 screens so i need a wide aperture to capture anything. Was just mucking about taking some shots over my monitors and of myself in the reflection in the window. My daughter had just woken up next door and i could hear my wife getting her out of the cot. "Let's go and see what daddy's up to". She's quite used to finding me trying out random photography techniques. So wasn't surprised to walk in and find me taking photos of a window... It actually looked quite cool with them standing behind me, so got them to walk forward a little, bumped up the ISO and then tried to focus as best I could. Focusing a range finder on a reflection, in the dark, with bright screens blaring into the lens isn't easy. There is a double reflection here due to the double glazing. Focus is pretty off, but the effect is quite good. You can see the silhouettes of the trees outside and Willow's rosie cheeks. Might have to try this out again one day.
