Almshouses

Tucked away not far from the town centre are these Almshouses, today a grade 2 listed building. Essentially almshouses date back a long way and were set up to provide housing to enable people to live in the community, usually for people of particular employment or their widows. Almshouses can still be found in many towns up and down the country.

These were built about 1885 around a small square with an imposing clock tower and today are run by a charitable trust.
