In Retrospect: Lament For A Lost Election
March 2010; election fever's hit the area, and if we needed a reminder at all that many industrial areas in the Midlands and the North do not trust the Conservative Party as far as they can throw them, this defaced poster on the Scotforth Road provides it.
This constituency itself is divided 50/50 between urban/industrial and rural areas; predictably, the farmers and rich yokels vote for the Tories in force, while us working stiffs get torn between Labour and the Lib Dems. The Tories win the seat by around 400 votes out of some 40,000. Almost 70% of the electorate have voted against them, but to no avail.
Welcome to your local democracy; shafting you for three hundred years and counting.
