king of kings or just another dictator?
three kings day today or epiphany or it-would've-been-oma's-98th-birthday-had-she-lived or a-day-to-eat-cakes-and-wear-crowns, however you want to see it.
We had a 3 kings cake at 6.30am to see who would be the king of the family (biggest child won - by finding the little plastic king in the cake), then littlest had one in school (she didn't win), they had one at the lunch...erm...thingy (there are no school lunches here but they can go to lunch at a place provided by the school), biggest won again. We had one at work too but we all lost as none of us found the king...so we cut up the last piece into 4 (there were four of us) to see who would get the king and managed to cut the king's head off...oops. So, we've declared a republic...quite fitting as I've just read an interesting article about Oliver Cromwell.
Tonight we went to the in laws place and had a very nice meal at the restaurant there - they live in a 'senior residence', her in the care home and he has a flat on the complex with warden etc - the restaurant is really good and the staff are lovely. It was a bit stressy though due to having to be home at a reasonable time as kids have school tomorrow. I'm feeling a bit cross about the fact that me and the kids only had 1 week off over Christmas and New Year - that's three free days that we've missed having off because they fell at the weekend - next year it will be four! When do we get that back? Or get paid for the extra work? It's not helped by the fact that himself works in a different county and is still on holiday...
Anyway, the crown wound it's way to it's natural place in our family...first the floor and then this one's head. Doesn't she look like the king in Shrek?!
