Nollaig na mBan - Women?s Christmas
January 6th is the liturgical feast of the Epiphany, the day when the Magi arrived in Bethlehem and offered gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus. In Ireland it is also Nollaig na mBan or ?Women?s Christmas? - a festival which is still celebrated traditionally by some families
This signified the end of the twelve days of Christmas and for this reason the Christmas holly would be taken down.
Traditionally the men take on the household chores, giving the women a day off to celebrate together after all their hard work in the run up to and during the Christmas period.
In our house it has always been the night when the kings were put in the crib,
