12th Night
The 6th January is known as 12th Night or Epiphany - the date the Magi, or 3 Kings visited the baby Jesus.
it is also the traditional date for taking down the Christmas decorations, which is what I have been doing this evening.
Our decorations are an eclectic mix of the loo-roll-and-doily-angels made by the children through to some wonderful Victorian glass longdrops from dismantled chandeliers and these two Victorian blown glass balls.
the others shown here are from Christmas 1972 when I worked as a sales assisstant in Harrods. They are traditional silvered glass baubles decorated with pipe cleaner type animal shapes. Sadly there are only 6 of the original 24 left.
