Wild Cat Trail

Second of January and second walk of the year - I wonder how long this can be kept up?

Anyway, this is a very popular (& gentle) tour of the surrounding countryside with the added bonus off spotting 'wild cats' that gave the trail its name. Not real ones though (at least not for me!) but a selection of models much like the cows we saw in Edinburgh some time back - all individually & beatifully decorated. These cats are tucked away in hidden corners and gardens you pass on this walk up over the hills behind Newtonmore and then down some small tributaries feeding into the Spey. The second half of the walk takes you over the railway line and down to the banks of the River Spey, around the golf course and back up the River Calder - an easy circular route for all abilities in any weather!

This BLIP is of the remaining ice on one of those streams/burns running down to the Spey called (checking the map!) Allt na Feithe Buidhe. Very nice to watch the water rushing below the breaking ice. As I walk past these icy patches I'm reminded of those markings seen on the wings of planes as you look out the window to check things before take off - DON'T WALK

Bit of Gaelioc translation now (using Wally 1's dictionary):
Allt - a river with precipitous banks; a stream, a brook
So I wasn't too far off with burn; certainly preferable to brook!
