Church Ruins at Flaybrick, Birkenhead
Over to the Wirral today to drop a birthday present off at my dads, then on to New Brighton. On the way we stopped off at these church ruins which we could see from the road. We walked around and there were some fantastic grave stones and memorials, here is a bit of the history
The cemetery was opened in 1864 and was called Birkenhead Cemetery and there were three Chaples. The Roman Catholic Chapel was demolished in 1971 and the two other Chapels were last used in 1975. The one in this picture is terribly vandalised and in need of repair as are some of the magnificant gravestones. I really don't understand the pleasure that some gain from trashing such beautiful things, They need stringing up
The cemetary is now known as Flaybrick Memorial Gardens and is a great Victorian cemetery. It is the final resting place of many of Wirral's famous and interesting people. It is set in 26 acres of gardens with a great variety of memorial architecture with inscriptions relating to events both local and world-wide. There are large family vaults and public graves for all levels of society who are buried there.
I will add a link later for other pics of this cemetary had terrible trouble with internet connection tonight.
Off to watch a film now so will catch up later
