Fortune Cookie
The story behind the fortune:
I was a senior at WKU in spring 2009. In the year preceding I had bombed the LSAT and the GRE. I wasn't sure a PhD in history would be for me, and I was still toying with the idea of law school. I went to a little Japanese restaurant in Bowling Green with my sorority sisters and best friends and when I opened my fortune cookie, this is what came out. While you can't plan your life around a fortune cookie, my friends and I thought it was most definitely a sign. In the months and year following that night, I studied and took the LSAT for a second time (did much better), applied to law school, was accepted to law school, moved to Mississippi, and survived my first semester as a 1L. I made a lot of friends (and three outstanding friends along the way) and fell in love with Oxford (although Kentucky will always be 'home.'). I framed this over the break and brought it back to Oxford to help me stay motivated. While you shouldn't make life-altering decisions based on the wisdom of a fortune cookie, I believe that God speaks to us in mysterious ways, and I think this was definitely a "don't stop believing" message.
