Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus)
As opposed to the rock and roll pipit (Keefus Richardsus) which is duller-eyed, skinnier and usually found on the Mediterranean coast at this time of year.
A short walk to Scapa in the sun. This little bird was on the wall of Scapa pier. There is some concern here that the small birds may have been depleted by the severity of the weather; birds like wrens, stonechats and meadow pipits. The rock pipts feed on the seashore, so their food doesn't get buried under snow. They still have to survive the cold, though. Hopefully the small birds will prove resilient.
