Gila Woodpecker

Since putting out the oiled birdseed, we have had a lot more interest in the mesquite tree in our backyard. This Gila Woodpecker shows interest but doesn't quite fit on the tiny perches of the bird feeder. So sometimes he just tries to satisfy himself sitting on a mesquite limb and "window shopping". He may be intimidated by all the activity and fighting for position on the feeder by all the finches and sparrows. In the meantime, down below are the "wide bodies" the mourning doves.
