Day of the triffid
An iPhone sort-of-emergency blip today, so apologies for the speckledyness (if there is such a word).
This is the triffid that has taken over our flat. Actually, it's a hippeastrum, although until five minutes ago Mrs Dailykeith was under the impression it was actually an amaryllis, as described on the packaging.
According to Wikipedia this is a common mistake made by sellers and nurseries.
Anyway, for weeks and weeks our indoor flower pot had a little stub of green that was did absolutely nothing. So inactive was it that I thought it was dead.
Then, all of a sudden it sprang into life. In fact, so stunning was its growth, I actually found it slightly creepy.
My guess is that John Wyndham kept hippeastrum in his study - lots of them. And I bet that was absolutely terrifying.
