Describing Words

It has been suggested that I should retire after winning temporary ownership of the BOTW crown, but I frankly have too many new subjects subscribers to address! You'll be pleased to know that I have back-blipped some of the last week, (although don't look at yesterday's out-of-focus shot) so I shall look back fondly on the week in time to come - wondering if I'll ever get as many views and comments, ever again, probably.

Today was better in work, with the resolution of a problem that occurred yesterday but it was pretty full-on again and I was determined to get out on time, so that I could make the first of this year's pilates sessions, which we were all looking forward to after the excesses of Christmas and New Year. It wasn't easy, and after all this exercise malarkey, I didn't think I would have the energy to get through my Polish lesson this evening.

After going over the difficult homework, which I still don't fully understand, (it was all about the endings of words and construction of sentences such as 'the cup is on the table'; 'the books are on the shelf'; the dog is lying on the rug'. I know the words - I just don't know what their endings should be in different contexts.) we moved on to adjectives and opposites. Some words were relatively easy, some words I recognised (and eventually remembered their meaning) but most were completely new. I prefer it when my teacher introduces visual aids and games to enhance the learning process - I find exercises on paper ok, but tonight it was a good job I got to pair up pieces of paper to work out what was what. It was a good lesson!

And after that, I said my goodbyes to friends who are flying home to New Zealand tomorrow after 3 yrs in Warsaw. It's strange, because they (and others) were well into their postings when I arrived back in July 2009 and all of a sudden we're at the stage where they're leaving and I'm at my half-way point. Some other friends had gathered at a flat downstairs for a final goodbye - the girls were teary and the boys macho. Hatty - their daughter who is 18 months old (born just after I got here) was on fine form, waving and smiling at us all - but looked a bit sceptical when the goodbyes lasted longer than they usually did. Suffice to say her parents are hoping she will sleep for a good chunk of that flight back to NZ tomorrow. Bon Voyage, to Roberto, Loveday and Harriet. Miss you already. x
