Mill and doocot
At Maes Howe again today. This is Tormiston Mill (early-mid C19th) which houses the visitor centre. I'd not seen this elevation until today when, during lunch, I walked up the 'other' side of the millstream. I hadn't realised that there was a doocot (dovecot) there. I showed this image to a woman who's been there 4 years and she never knew the doocot was there!
I suppose it was a useful thing...the doves/pigeons would feed on spilt grain (less for rats and mice) and then provide fat meals for the miller and family.
The image would be better from further away, but I had a farm building right at my back.
